What is Sciatica?

In our lumbar spine (lower back), you have two large nerves exiting on the right and left sides of your spinal column. These nerves are called sciatic nerves and they provide motor and sensory input to your legs. When a nerve is irritated or compressed near the spine, it leads to inflammation and tissue damage referred to as spinal nerve impingement and results in symptoms, including excruciating back pain.
